Dry-type transformer
A dry-type transformer is a type of transformer that does not use a liquid coolant such as oil. Compared to traditional oil-immersed transformers, dry-type transformers use solid insulating materials for insulation and cooling, which gives them an advantage in some special applications. - Insulation materials: Dry-type transformers use a variety of solid insulation materials, such as glass fiber reinforced epoxy (GRP) insulation, inorganic insulation materials. These insulating materials have good insulation properties and can effectively isolate and protect the windings of the transformer.
- Cooling method: dry-type transformer adopts natural ventilation or forced ventilation for cooling. Natural ventilation through the heat sink or duct so that the surrounding air flow over the surface of the transformer, take away the heat. Forced ventilation uses fans or air coolers to enhance air flow and improve cooling efficiency. - Maintenance and operation: Dry-type transformers offer simpler and easier maintenance and operation compared to oil-immersed transformers. Since liquid coolant is not required, there is no need to check the oil quality and change the oil regularly, which reduces the maintenance workload and cost.
- Environmental friendliness: Dry-type transformers do not create environmental problems of liquid coolant leakage and do not require disposal of waste cooling oil. It meets the requirements of environmental protection, and is especially suitable for some places and applications with high requirements for environmental protection.
- Application areas: dry-type transformers are widely used in commercial buildings, industrial plants, subway stations, hospitals, schools and other places that require high safety and fire performance. It is also suitable for humid environments, coastal areas and occasions that require frequent transportation.
It should be noted that the dry-type transformer in some high-power and special applications may not be able to meet the requirements, when the oil-immersed transformer is still the more common choice. The choice of transformer type should be based on the specific application needs and technical requirements for evaluation and decision-making.
