Thermocouple

A thermocouple is a temperature measuring sensor that utilizes the thermoelectric effect between two different metal wires to measure temperature changes. It is one of the common temperature sensors widely used in industry and science.

Working Principle: Thermocouple is based on the thermoelectric effect of a thermoelectric pair consisting of two different metal wires. According to the principle of thermoelectric effect, when a temperature gradient is formed at the point of connection of two different metal wires, a potential difference (thermoelectric potential) is generated. This potential difference varies with temperature and there is a relationship between it and the temperature change. By measuring the thermoelectric potential, the change in temperature can be inferred.

Thermopair: A thermocouple consists of a thermoelectric pair of two different metal wires. There are various common types of thermocouples, such as type K (Nichrome – Nickel Aluminum), type J (Iron – Copper Nickel), type T (Copper – Copper Nickel) and so on. Different types of thermocouples have different temperature ranges and characteristics for different application scenarios.

Temperature Measurement Range: Thermocouples can measure temperatures in both very high and low temperature ranges. Different types of thermocouples have different operating temperature ranges, ranging from tens of degrees Celsius to thousands of degrees Celsius. For example, type K thermocouples are suitable for the range of -200 degrees Celsius to +1350 degrees Celsius.
