Frequency converter

A frequency converter is an electronic device that is used to convert the AC energy in a power system to AC energy of a different frequency. It usually consists of an input converter, an intermediate DC link and an output inverter.

  1. working principle:
  • Input converter: The input converter converts the AC electrical energy from the input power supply into DC electrical energy and controls the shape and amplitude of the output current through a control circuit.
  • Intermediate DC link: The intermediate DC link includes components such as DC capacitor and DC inductor, which are used to smooth the DC voltage waveform and provide a stable DC power supply to the output inverter.
  • Output inverter: The output inverter converts the intermediate DC energy into AC energy at the desired output frequency and controls the shape and amplitude of the output current through the control circuit.

  • Wind power generation: the frequency converter can convert the AC power output from the wind turbine into AC power matching the frequency of the power grid, realizing the smooth output of power.
  • Solar power generation: the frequency converter can convert the AC power output from the solar photovoltaic array into AC power that matches the frequency of the power grid, so as to be connected to the grid for power supply or self-consumption.
  • Motor control: Frequency converters can be used to regulate the speed and torque of motors, realizing variable frequency speed control of motors, which is suitable for applications requiring variable speed operation, such as elevators, fans, pumps and so on.
  • Marine and Aviation Power Systems: Frequency converters convert AC power on ships and aircraft to a specific frequency suitable for ship or aircraft equipment.
  • Laboratory and test equipment: Frequency converters can be used in laboratories and test equipment to provide power supply at different frequencies to meet testing and research needs.
  • Other applications: Frequency converters can also be used in other applications that require the conversion of AC power frequencies, such as medical equipment, communications equipment, industrial production, etc.

The design and selection of a frequency converter requires consideration of factors such as the power requirements of the input power supply and the output load, frequency conversion range, efficiency requirements, and electrical safety. Different application scenarios and requirements will determine the selection of the appropriate frequency converter type and specifications.
